The Diawa Coastals have been really good reels. Both the SV TW 150 and the newer, smaller 80.

I have a bunch of Lew's reels too and they have been good reels but the Daiwa just feels like a higher quality reel. If you get a Daiwa Coastal read the directions before you start adjusting stuff. The system works a little differently, you don't adjust the spool tension knob. Just a heads up before you nut it all up.

As I buy new baitcasters I'm buying more Daiwas right now.

The Shimano DC reels work well. I have customers who bring them all the time. I have a customer who fishes with a Metanium DC and it is a really nice reel. I wouldn't buy the DC model for myself but if you have trouble throwing a baitcaster it'll help you out. And it does have a little high pitch hum when you cast it but after a little use you don't notice it.

The one AG posted is really nice.
If you're looking to save some bucks, then the Shimano SLX is a really nice reel for about half the $

I'm not a big fan of the DC. The anti-backlash is great for throwing light baits in the wind, but the squeel is kinda annoying.

Anything Lews is disposable. Sorry, but that's just a fact. They were great when they were re-released about 20 yrs ago, but cost cutting by BDC Capitol Partners, and then Rather Outdoors has greatly diminished their quality.

        Equity groups are the devil.

see I knew SS would deliver the truth....when it comes to fishing equipment or sunglasses I aint buying till he said so....I still have the Costas that I bought from a few years back and they have seen the extreme desert heat and the waters of the Kenai when I fell in and freezing snow on the Snake

I have a Team Lews Lite that they quit making a couple of years ago and I love it. I have a 13 Fishing Concept C that I mostly like. It is 8:1 gear ratio that I bought because I had never owned one and I don't like that part. It casts great and has held up well. My favorite reel is probably a Chronarch E series. Besides that, I have some old Greenie Curados and older Chronarchs that are in various states of disrepair.

My next one will be a Daiwa Tatula or Coastal.

I have had pretty good luck buying old Curados and Chronarchs off ebay and rebuilding them.

Shimano went to shit after the E series. I have heard their newer stuff is back to par, but don't have personal experience with it.

on a fishing note if any of you have a previously owned Shimano 6500 baitrunner spinning reel on the market I would like to hear about it, they used to use them here as rental equipment back in the day and i got to use one and it seems that technique is coming back in vogue for fishing yellowtail or tuna and I think my old Mitchell Garcia 406 can stop a yellowtail but I dont think it has the guts to stop a smaller bluefin....I saw the saw the new Daiwa versions of their baitrunner at some of the local tackle shops and some of the guys swear by them but Im not into shelling out 250-300 for them

The problem with the older Shimanos is parts availability.

Yup. Gonna have to retire my Abu's on my muskie/northern rods soon. Probably 30 yrs old.

Hell, Thats the only thing I buy for serious work. Their cheaper end stuff is all CHINESEUM anymore. I guess old habits die hard. I grew up fishing Texoma. All we used from striper to crappie. All of mine are crapping out and I've been replacing them with the Sweden made ones as they fail.
Maybe I should follow Sunrise's suggestion. He hasnt been wrong yet. Old familiar dies hard though.

                      I'm all about the e series ...
But like was said parts are getting hard to get
Alot of the es parts will interchange though just have to improvise on some parts
Only other baitcasters besides 70s model ambassadors I ever had was the revos even the stx was junk in the salt imo.

This reel has peaked my interest. Kk actually makes some really nice gear for the money, has great reviews and is light as a feather which I prefer for all day wading.

Magnesium frames in saltwater require some extra care and babying.

Magnesium is highly corrosive. If you scratch the finish off it'll corrode at an alarming rate.
