Wife and I are considering opening up a dance studio in our neck of the woods.

General advice or lessons learned from those who sign the front of the check?

Boy howdy. Daughters would like to start a daycare with my backing but I'm smart enough to know I don't know how to go about it.

Strip club? Be sure to offer check cashing in adjacent unit.

What is the background to justify opening a dance studio?

since your wife is a teacher I assume she is going to teach some form(s) of modern, jazz, ballet or are we talking ballroom dance ?

How about a martial arts studio at night

Create a business plan, include all of your expenses, conservatively estimate your income and compare to your expenses and figure out what it will take to become cash flow positive.

Then ask yourself a question, “ Would I do this for free?”

If the answer is yes, then it’s a hobby not a business.

              Good Luck!

They print money, even in a small, western KS town.

I’d wait 1.5-2 years before pursuing formation and securing property, but am also a dumbazz and don’t have a crystal ball. “Do something you love and you’ll never work a day in your life” only applies long term if you’re seeing financial returns that warrant the sweat and mental equity. If you’re not, most people eventually find themselves at a tough decision. “The arts” is a difficult business and usually a labor of love.

Never seen any such business last very long. Got to be a reason. If you're looking for a good business build storage units.

Yep. Old rule of thumb, can you go for at least 2 years with zero income?
