  • TPWD draw hunt

Me and a buddy got drawn for a antlerless/spike gun hunt at lake Cooper in Dec. Anybody been on one of these draw hunts that can advise me on how these hunts are ran? Do they assign compartment, go hunt where you want to, etc?

I went on duck hunt draw hunt. They had us select the compartment in the order we were drawn for the hunt. We had hunted the area before, so we had the order we wanted and when they called my name we chose the compartment we wanted to hunt.

I assume it’s similar for deer hunts, but don’t know.

The turkey hunts I've drawn on are assigned compartments. After the first afternoon, I've been allowed to switch if another one is available.

I hope that's the case. I'm familiar with the areas around the lake so I have several areas in mind. I bow hunt one area so maybe I can get that area.

          Pretty much this.

I've been on 10 or so from gator to exotic. Rifle to muzzle loader. 90% of the people running hunts are cool. Then you get the others

The biologists assigned to the unit will more than likely be the only ones there

If you see him, ask him if he ever learned which way a fish goes on a measuring board.

The county game warden was at one of my orientations. But, yeah. It's usually the area manager or the biologist. They go over safety, unit boundaries, etc and send you on your way.

I've seen it from one end of the spectrum to the other.

One hunt the volunteers where so over bearing on stuff it was ridiculous. Safety briefing took 4 hours. Couldn't track deer off the road etc

Then we had one that was in BFE. The biologist checked us in, assigned compartments and went home. Said he be back in the morning.

the blatant disrespect of LE on this board is reprehensible.

                        Frankly I'm disgusted by it

You need to hide the hook better.

But to satisfy your sarcasm, look up his story and tell me I'm wrong.
