  • People that make a living from YouTube

Since I retired and things calmed down, I have spent hours and hours doing research on YouTube. Anything from chainsaws, to tractors, computers, musical equipment, etc.

Most of you probably knew about all of this that I'm gonna say, but I'm a little late to the game when it comes to Tech stuff. Anyway, I bet it would blow people away to know how many people (some of them complete flunkees) make a fine living from creating a channel on YouTube and uploading videos. Of course, they get paid for advertisers when they reach a certain number of views, and subscribers. Some of them make over a million a year from nothing but their videos. That is just wild to me.

Anyway, I just stumbled on another thing I'd never noticed until today and this one is even more curious. I was watching a very cool dot Indian dude that is a music producer and product reviewer of all kinds of recording software, computers, music production equipment, and so on. In one of his videos he starts to talk about his computer monitor, which is a freaking huge LG 34" monitor that sells for over a thousand bucks. He posted a link so people can read about/or purchase these monitors. What stood out to me is what happened when I clicked on the link. It links over to Amazon.com, their official website, however in the web address following Amazon.com, it spells out this dude's name in the web address, along with some gibberish numbers and what not.

From the looks of it, and maybe someone here will know, this dude is not only making bank on his videos but has some kind of agreement via Amazon to get paid by the LG corporation when someone orders that particular monitor from his supplied link.

Lastly, I'm starting to think the pandemic and subsequent labor shortage dilemma is partially because of people like this guy and thousands of others have figured out a way to make a living in this manner. Could be wrong, but about 29% of the time I am dead-on right.

    Thank you for your time.

I guess welcome to 10 years ago, but also there are VERY few that make substantial money.

but many that make pretty decent money.

I thought about making a Only fans but I already pay too much in taxes and didn't want the bump up from that cash

                This.

And the monetization of youtubers is nothing like it was back then.

100k subscribers 5 years ago would raise eyebrows and bring in ad offers and dollars.

Now, that's nothing. 1m is about the minimum to make bank.

I can only imagine Panther on OnlyFans, but yeah, you are correct. I talked with this dude several years ago that his wife was one of the early influencers on YT doing makeup tutorials and she was pulling 70K a month. At some point they greatly decreased their payout. All I know from watching the sailing channels is that subscriber count needs to be ~200K before you see them buying new stuff they couldn't previously afford, and they don't buy the luxury stuff until they hit 400K or so.

One of the recent really crazy and quick rises in subscribers and therefore money has been Matt's Offroad Recovery and by extension Fab Rats and Robbie Layton. He now does recoveries for free just for YT content. Vice Grip Garage was a dark horse too.

My youngest daughter gets paid via TikTok. She has a page for our dogs and posts some pretty funny videos. She just did one a few days ago that has over 7.5M views and climbing.
