I was a kid and Lake Sam Rayburn got low above the Ayish Bayou bridge. Grandpa figured them coons would be out on the lake bed, so we went down there at dark and turned the dogs loose.
They struck right of and Grandpa was just a giggling. We run across that muddy mess and got to a tangle of snags them dogs was up into. Wholly the cow that skunk let go. We ran back as quick as we came with the dogs chasing us.
I was walking back from the deer stand one evening and it was dark. I see something small in the road in front of me. I thought it was a coon and turned the light onto it. It was a skunk that was in the process of raising up to spray. One more step I would have gotten the stank....
Every lab I have ever had the privilege of being owned by has been sprayed by a skunk. The 1 and only cat that tolerated my presence got sprayed attacking a skunk as I opened the back door.
I personally have yet to be skunked by a skunk, but had some close encounters. The best anti gettin sprayed tool I own is a really good head lamp.
Best natural hunting dog I will likely ever own tackled a skunk before we got to the blind one morning. I tied that stinkin’ somb under the tractor shed and went hunting. Could hear him howl in sorrow after a volley or two. 😂
Son of a bitch would take an armadillo and crunch them like a taco shell.
