Been a wild past month for me. My company had announced 4500 worldwide layoffs back at the beginning of the year, but hadn't given any details. Well a few weeks ago they got after it. Somewhere between 50-100 people got laid off in the Orange plant. I managed to not be one of them. My job role did change though. They laid off one of the DCS techs (nice package and he was ready to go anyways) and a week later I was informed I was moving into that role. I expected a shift in my job of some sort due to my job role being an odd one in the org, but this was a pleasant surprise. I have a whole new layer of controls to learn now. The next year is going to be challenging with a big turnaround coming up.

The big shots have described this slump that ethylene is in as the longest term slump in the market that they have seen in their careers. I dont think it has a whole lot to do with trump. In fact higher oil prices are better for our business since the chinese ethylene crackers that are our chief price competition run on naptha and not ethane/propane as a feed source.

LNG is where it’s at right now. We are balls to the wall busy with LNG analytical jobs right now. We were just awarded a couple of huge projects, shipping in late 27 I think. Big enough where we will increase head count in the field service group just to support them.Comment
