  • Hunting Lease ?

Looking hard at a lease for dad and I. Trying to stay 250ish miles from Longview area.

Mainly deer is what we’re after.

Anybody have any ideas or leads?

I don't have any leads Andy, but want to wish you luck.

I've been looking pretty hard for 3-4 years and I think I have finally found a good one.

We will see as the year progresses.

Join TBH if you haven’t already. Seems the popular route over in your neck of the woods is hunting timber leases. I see them advertised on TexAgs here and there but TBH is usually the most consistent on having leases posted.

Miles and budget with a strong emphasis on the later. The openings I know of right now arent within that 250 or bow only.

As much as I hate to admit, I may actually be looking in the next few years. Family is gonna fuk my place 10 ways to sunday. I keep thinking by the time it happens, mexico will be much easier to do. Its just the drive that will suck

It's tough and only getting worse. You see 20 lease wanted threads for every one available. Even the high dollar stuff goes pretty quick. Only thing you see sit, either doesn't have many animals or has crazy rules.

At what point do you just say fuck it and do a few outfitter hunts a year?

The hard part would be getting kids and family into it. I want land for that as much as for myself.

The answer is spend the money on a beef. Hunt public and eat well regardless of hunting success. Fk an outfitter in the neck.

Its just gotten worse over the years. Message boards sometimes things pop up, not here but others. Best thing is to keep networking through local hunting clubs. Go to every fundraising banquet for a year and make friends and let them know you are looking if something opens up. That or make really good friends with the clerk at the local feed store.

Outfitter idea is a good plan for birds but if you want to deer hunt, those prices are straight up ratarded $500 to shoot a whitetail doe, no thank you.

Also, there's always poaching/tresspassing, some of the biggest trophies every year are taken that way!

For $15k a year, I don’t know why you wouldn’t just go buy a chunk of land and do whatever you want with it. That’s about what my land note is a year. We shoot ducks and have had a few 150s come strolling thru every so often. 1 hr and 10 min from the hacienda.

Where is your place located. Just general area?

Seeing this thread makes me glad our landowner isn’t a greedy bastard. My uncle has been leasing from him for over 15 years with basically no price increase. $7k for a touch under 700 acres, we have 5 guns on it.

Pretty sure Ive said it before, but more often than not, if the place has to list a single or two spots on the web, it aint worth looking at. Good places either absorb the fees or phone a friend. A place I quail hunted down south a couple years ago is on year 5-6 or great management. They have a wait list and it takes 1000.00 bucks just to get on the list.

The prices on out fitted hunts are why Mrs. Q and I have started looking at Africa. We can both go to Africa and shoot 4-5 animals for what one trophy elk hunt costs and africa would be 3x the adventure
