  • Doves

So my office window overlooks this cut sunflower field and it has been absolute torture for me to sit here in the mornings the last couple weeks. The amount of doves is insane…. I was up here last dove season and there wasn’t this many.

I have permission to hunt it after the opener but the electrical contractor who leases it and cuts it every year has a huge shindig opening day every year. Hopefully there will still be a few left that week.

Don't see much yellow for sunflowers...
      Looks more like hemp.

110 degree heat will make em look like that. Flowers dried up and died or whatever couple weeks ago. Doesn’t mean that grounds not littered with seeds.

I’ve got a video too, I wish I could post it. Took it a week or two ago.

I’m guessing you’ll probably know em, they’re definitely one of the largest and oldest in the Austin area.

If that field is worth a half a hoot, they'll be in there thick enough after a group that doesn't hunt but once a year on opening day.

I've never seen a sunflower field shredded in that fashion.

He normally just cuts lanes length wise right before the season but this year he cross hatched it. This is all for hunting purposes. He didn’t even plant the sunflowers. The last two years it’s been in sunflowers but from what I understand he used to plant Milo.

FIL has some sun flowers that come back every year for like 6 years. So well we've taken dried seeds and thrown them out and they take very well.
