  • Drove by a bad wreck today

Looked like a head on, on a 2 land road with a 60mph speed limit.

Car 1 was a mid size suv, car 2 a diesel 1 ton truck with a flat bed.

    Main road runs east/west.

Car 1 was in the outside on the north ditch facing southeast. Its engine block was on the outside of the south ditch!

I know QB and runnin have prolly seen worse, but seeing the engine block 30-40 yards away from the rest of the car was the worst I’ve seen that I recall.

No idea on survivors or what the end result was.

Found a pic on the book of faces of the suv.

As a daliy interstate commuter it was likely due to a facebooker. Most likely female

As mashed as that car is, it looks survivable. Air bags and crunple zones do amazing things

I’ve been on the receiving end of that very thing. Bad head on back in college. Exactly that…crumple zone saved my ass and I got through with only a scratch or two. Worst parts were the seat belt rash and being strapped to thr %#*!^*}*} back board. I stayed strapped to that thing for hours while the radiologist took his sweet time reading the X-rays. That thing was awful.

Seat belts. I was really bad about wearing them. Always thought the big trucks I had would save me.

Then it was policy on patrol and automatic 10 days off if you got caught so you got used to it. Then you see people without them in trees, teeth stuck in trailer ramps and appendages bent in directions that make no sense

The worst I have seen is 2 18whlr’s hit head on. Unbelievable carnage. Was on Hi6 south of Marlin about 20 yrs ago. No one made it out of that one.

I was a scofflaw about it back in my younger days. Now, it's usually on before I even start the truck.

I crack a windshield with my head when I rear ended a bucket truck in college. Still didn’t wear a seat belt.

Then we had a kid he was a baby we were driving to the lake. Got flagged down by a kid him and his cousin lost control and crashed into a ditch. The cousin was sprayed out on the dash. He didn’t make it. Have warm a seat belt ever since.

It’s near impossible not to wear one, my new truck is pretty annoying.

We have seen 3 vehicles in the last two weeks gong the wrong way in the wrong lane. All in the middle of the day in good weather.

Mine actually has a feature that won't allow the transmission to go in drive if the seatbelt isn't on. I have that turned off, though. I don't feel I need a seatbelt on while I'm driving down the turn row.

We have blank plugs that double as bottle openers. Soon as we leave the pavement they get swapped out

As QB said...Look at the passenger compartment. It is largely intact. I cannot see the floors. By the placement of the front drive train it appears they buckled. I would suspect the injuries, if any, are lower leg or related to rapid deceleration. Also minor burns related to airbag deployment.

Cars, these days, do a pretty good job of sacrificing themselves for the occupants. The wreck that is most deadly these days it the T-bone where one vehicle drives directly into a passenger door. That energy is transferred laterally right down the passenger seat. It is crazy, just four inches one way or the other puts that energy into a B-Pillar, the engine compartment, or a storage compartment in the rear.

We have a bad intersection near our home. Farm road meets a 65 MPH State Highway, When my light turns green from the FM Road I count to five before pulling out, and I 'm looking hard at the crossing traffic.

I 3D printed a bunch of blanks. Have them in every vehicle and have a bunch away. Real handy when at the deer killing place.

Several dudes have totaled their shit in farm canals. Y’all may not have canals in the desert though. 🤷🏻*♂️
