  • Whistle pig & Buffalo Trace

Had dinner with friends last night at a place where I usually have Buffalo Trace old fashions. When we arrived, friends already there & he was having a whistle pig old fashion. So I ordered one. It was excellent, probably smoothest bourbon drink I ever had. They were proud of them too, so the second one I went back to BT, partly to compare but mainly because I’m tight. Anyhow, just a little more bite compared to the whistle pig. Definitely could tell the difference.

    Anyhow, CSB.

If it’s in an old fashion I like a little more bite.

WP 10 a pretty good pour. Probably not something that I would put in a cocktail but that's why God gave us free will

I definitely likey Old Fashioneds with Rye.

Toasted my daughter's engagement with Whistle Pig 15. That was four pours for the table.

Well...that was about half of the meal tab including all the other drinks that were had.

agreed, not something I would mix.

typically not a big rye fan, but WP is good. I really like the 15yr.

Seriously? You guys are wasting really good whiskey on an old fashioned? Drink it neat or on the rocks as God intended, not in some metrosexual mixed drink.

BT or Wellers has been my goto for whiskey drinks for a while now. Just depends mostly on what I can get, thanks to the whiskey snobs. If I'm drinking it neat, I keep a bottle of Eagle Rare in the liquor cabinet.

Second. I dont feel bad making an OF with either of those. Had a friend pour me some eagle a couple weeks ago in Concan. It had been awhile since I had poured my own

Didn’t go in the place with a target in mind. Plus not a whiskey connoisseur. Won’t hardly know about any of these things except what I read on here. Hell, i make old fashions at home with Dickel & get along fine. Maybe I will try the WP someday neat, out of curiosity. Maybe not. Who knows.

One of the members here helped me get a bottle of Whistle Pig for one of my clients.

The client told me, "it was really good but after 4-5 it turns into a raging boar."

                      no judgement here.

I like good wine and good whiskey but there are $8 bottles of wine I like just as good or better than some $100 bottles, same with brown water.

Drink what you like and don't apologize for nutttin

Or, how about dont be a cunt? As booker noe once said "I dont give a shit how you drink bourbon as long as you drink it". I know guys who will top pappy (most overrated bourbon in history) with some ginger ale, good for them. FYI, mr. noe always drank his bourbon with a splash of G ALE. Dont get me wrong, really good bourbon is best neat or maybe with one cube but I dont get heart ache if someone throws a little something in with it.

With that, W pig is overrated but not bad. and matlock is right, RYE in old fashions.

Ronnie, drag your ass up here some time and I'll treat you to some good stuff....and I'll make you the best old fashion ever.

Hah! I am so chastened (not). Sounds like I might have touched a nerve. I’ll stand by my comment, no need to waste high dollar liquor in a drink made to disguise its taste. Bullitt rye is what you use in an Old Fashioned.

While I can agree with you, and only drink my bourbon neat, I don’t care what other people do. I like an old fashioned but won’t make one with anything below 50%, otherwise I can’t taste the bourbon.
