  • Bait casting reel suggestion

Haven't bought a new bait casting reel in years. Is the Curado still the standard for coastal fishing?

Lews custom lite and the diawa Ag posted are the two I’m pretty much using exclusively now.

seems like every manufacture went the same offset gear/handle including Shimano, my old/new Curado that i used in Alaska looks nothing like the ones on the market today...but I will listen intently to whatever SS has to say on this subject because I want to get in on the yellowtail/dorado/bluefin tuna bite that happened here on the west coast late last summer

Lew's but getting the correct gear ratio is more important then brand.

          5:1.....deep crank baits
          6:1....medium crankbaits, spinner baits
          7:1....buzzbaits, plastic baits, jigs
8:1....same as the 7:1, only faster

            He said coastal fishing!

Curado slx DC for me. Mrs Q likes Daiwa tatua or however they spell it. Put em both to work this morning and yesterday. Concept c only other I'd look at

Lews can suck it unless you fish ditch pickles

                ^what he said

SLX DC reels have been very solid for me as well.

                Nice trip!

Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 6600 c4 or better. The rest are just garbage for serious winching.

That was Wilson's first bait caster. He loved it, but he likes his new daiwa a lot more.

                        Shimano or Daiwa.

The one AG posted is really nice.
If you're looking to save some bucks, then the Shimano SLX is a really nice reel for about half the $

I'm not a big fan of the DC. The anti-backlash is great for throwing light baits in the wind, but the squeel is kinda annoying.

Anything Lews is disposable. Sorry, but that's just a fact. They were great when they were re-released about 20 yrs ago, but cost cutting by BDC Capitol Partners, and then Rather Outdoors has greatly diminished their quality.

                        Equity groups are the devil.

The uglies went back. Strung for photo opportunities.

Catching those reds 4 at a time on anything you threw was a time that will never be forgotten.
