  • Caddo Lake

Haven't been there but once and I was about 7 years old.
What to do there in April? How to locate crappie in that mess. Rented a house for a week next month. Any must sees? Etc...

Flipping the cypress trees with big jigs next to channels can produce some hammer bass. That area is beautiful, hope you enjoy.

Riverport BBQ in Jefferson is a must. Brisket is as good as it gets. Limited hours so check before you go.

Second this. Ribs are outstanding as well. Swamp fries if you want a nap.

Can be some good crappie fishing. We used to flip minnows at the base of the cypress trees and wear em out, but that was a long time ago.

I hope you catch a whole mess of crappie fish. And try not to get murdered by some backwoods east Texas meth fiend.

I hear if you have LiveScope, they will jump in the boat for you.

That is a place that is on my bucket list of places to spend some time.

                  This for a third time.
Still my favorite lake in Texas. Grew up fishing that lake & LOP with my grandpa. Squirrel hunted around it. Learned to duck hunt and run traps on or around Caddo. That was in the late 60-early 80’s. Cousin owned land ( he was old even then) along Big Cypress Bayou. Killed my first deer there. Big 8 point. I was so proud. Love that area. Don’t remember catching many crappie, but we caught literal boat loads of catfish. And a type of catfish they called a willow cat. Only place I have ever heard that term used and have asked on various catfish forums, no one has ever heard that term. Also caught lots of bass and occasionally a pickerel. Old men called em pike.
I make at least one trip back each year just to fish and enjoy the beauty. Still catch lots of small bass and a few catfish. All my family from there is long gone now, so I usually just go by myself for a week.
Enjoy it. Most beautiful lake in Texas to me.

Catch willow cats here from time to time.

We used to yoyo fish at night and wear em out
You set the minnows in the first six inches of water
You can only fish yoyos now on the la side...
Never did pole fish for them out there so no help.
But I'm right down the road from there so expect me to come fk with you if I know where you are

I found a tackle box on a creek bank when I was a boy. It was full of yo, yos. Dad .ade me leave it as he said they were illegal. Had to be early 80s.

Only place we could get with a months notice is a house a block off the water in Uncertain Tx, I believe. Will have to ask the wife.

Where on the lake are the pictures from? Wife want to motor over there for pics.

Will a surface drive get me through the vegetation on that lake? Yes I am Ignorant of both the lake and Surfaces drives. I Just remember being there as a kid and Dad raising Cain about shear pins. I ran prolly 20 miles of river on with it earlier in the week. We dont have vegetables like that here. It eats mud and tree tops like nobodies business.

That place is made for surface drives. Take a GPS and stay in the boat lanes. Easy to get turned around.

I have a buddy that just built a camp on Caddo. It is beautiful. Can't help on the fishing though.
