I have 8 cell game cams. Five are covert and three spy point. All have solar panels and rechargeable batteries which is the only way to go. The spy points I bought at academy for around $150 I think? They have the built in small solar panel and battery pack. They are not nearly as nice as the coverts and the pictures are not as clear but they do the job. I have not had any issues with any of them. The key I think is choosing the right carrier that works best in your area.
We have had two Tactacam Reveal X's out since March, on our lease about 300 miles from home. The only issues we've had is when a squirrel or raccoon managed to unplug or cut the line from the external 12V supply. Tens of thousands of pictures. Got ours for about $130 each and the data plan is $110/ year for unlimited lo-res pics. If you want to get the full HD version, you request it for a charge of $5/50 pictures. www.herd360.com for parts to DIY your external supply.
I have a SPYPOINT that has been replaced 3 times since Christmas, works for about 2 weeks and stops, then it won’t even turn on,they suck, bought a Spartan and it has worked great, looking at buying more .
The nice thing with spypoint is you don't pay for services up to 100 pictures a month.
How do the plans work on the other companies?
I use my spy points as security cameras aimed at the gate, cabin, etc. and the 100 pictures month works for that. My trail cameras aimed at feeders get over 100 pictures a day so their freebie plan is sort of useless for that. Covert charges me $150/yr for 125,000 pictures. That is 342 pictures a day spread across my five cameras which is about right.
They worked fine for me. I have 3 of them and have worked fine for about 2 years. Buy the battery pack and a solar panel or you will replace the batteries every other week.

This. My daughter has one that seems to work fine, but is a battery eater. Next time up we will be adding the solar setup.
I've used my cuddeback system for 3 years and really like it. Haven't had really any issues with them and the batteries last a good amount of time. You can get external battery pack or solar if you want to go that route. I like the cuddeback system because I can have several cameras at my place and they all fall under just 1 cell plan and not each getting charged.
