  • Franchi Affinity 3.5 or Beretta A300?

Inertia or gas? Gonna get my son a new duck gun for Christmas. He has gotten back interested in hunting the last couple of years and has used my old 1100 or a Sportsman 870. He shot a 391 youth 20ga growing up and kinda faded from hunting as he outgrew it.

Beretta has a $75 rebate on the A300 til the end of the month but has the kickoff stock that I don’t like the feel of. I’ve shot an Auto-5 for 40 years so I don’t mind recoil guns but he hasn’t shot mine very much. I know long recoil is different than an inertia gun but they are both different from a gas gun.

What y says the FFBT? Any others in the $1k price range I should take notice of?

Inertia, Inertia, Inertia. I'd go with the Franchi myself. Beretta is a fine choice, but I just prefer the easiness of the Inertia gun. This is coming from a guy who does not take the best care of his guns. I hate cleaning them to the point I'm thinking of hiring ADH's yard guy to do it for me.

I've shot the Beretta with the "Kick off" stock. A400, I believe. Hated it.
Springs or gas dont matter as long as you go with a quality maker.

If you field hunt, they both suck. Gotta keep both clean.

The A300 has the same gas system set up as the old AL390 and 3". I have 2 AL390s and love em. The Franchi is lighter and easier to clean and 3.5". Can't go wrong on either one. I belive the Franchi comes with shims and the A300 does not.

I think you can remove the shock portion and put in a spacer for the stock. That’s one of the main reasons I’m leaning Beretta. The 391 youth 20 has been flawless the the 390 type gas system is a big plus in my book

The Franchi is a pintail and I have a pintail that I rhave ran 2 million duck bullets thru over the years.

But The Gas gun is pretty good too

Why do you need a 3.5 gun. That is not a negative or a positive.

Hey David. Long time. Count me in the Beretta gas camp. My Extrema has been flawless and takes everything from light skeet loads to heavy 3.5s without a fuss. Very soft shooter is a big plus.

My son’s Franchi affinity jams a lot. He bought it used it looks prestine. May be why it was sold.

I can tear down, clean and reassemble any beretta auto made in less time it takes ADH to summon the gun butler

They don't require that much cleaning

Hunting with people that think 3.5s are what you need.
                            Negative.

I do get that scenario, but I would I rather have a higher quality 3 inch gun that a mid grade 3.5 gun.

Beretta A300. The only time that things ever turned into a single shot was last year at the coast when there was so much salt/grit in it that it gave up. I put it through the wringer that weekend. Also shoots any load I’ve ever put through it.

My Dad bought a Franchise 20ga, it’s an alright gun. Doesn’t like light dove loads. I have the same problem with my Weatherby Element with light dove loads. Won’t cycle all the way.
