  • Mower props

I will preface this with "I am one Cheap Basturd"

I have over a year and a half on my current prop. She just doesn't bite like it used too. I ordered a second from the Manufacturer when I purchased the boat. Keep it under the seat along with enough tools to fix about anything.

Pulled prop this afternoon and going to put old one under seat. Called Go-Devil and spent another $300 for a new one. I cannot tell how bad the old one is worn as it measures what they say it should on their website, but the cup is obviously Gone.

Should I toss the damn thing in the dumpster or send it for rebuild? Are rebuilt props worth a darn?

I hate like the Dickens to send it off. I'd imagine they just weld a bead on there and reshape it. Stainless I'd about the easiest metal on the planet to weld, I just wouldn't have a clue how to shape and balance it. Would likely cause mpre issue that it is worth if a man didn't get it balanced.
    Appreciate the insight.

Thr measurement they require is from centerline to tip of blade. Its within 1/4, but obviously worn.

I am completely ignorant of these things. Hopefully one of you fellers knows what the heck you speak of.

I just chunk them. I "hear" they can be rebuilt but never priced it out.

I have never been able to get a prop off of a long tail. I end up doing a bushing job, a shaft, seals, the whole nine.

Keep rebuilt as a back up, or if you know you are going to be running a lot of sand. No point in destroying a new one in sand.

Makes sense. I may have them rebuild it or just toss it under the seat as is. I keep wrenches under the seat in vacuum sealed bags to fight corrosion. Easy enough to swap out if I am going in to where I knowing is bad.
            Thanks for the advise.

I also keep a dead blow hammer under the seat as I have read that they can be a bitch to pull off. This one fell off after removing the nuts.
