No, it's not. But before all of you ignorant fucks get your panties in a wad, you need to know what the definitions are. Pedophilia is a psychiatric term in that means that a persons primary source of sexual attraction is to PREPUBESCENT children. Most sex offenders who molest children are NOT true pedophiles. They are sex offenders and are sick fucks, but do not meet the definition. As a investigator of crimes against children, we don't use the term pedophile, as its term that requires a diagnosis by a psychiatrist. I spent 8 years investigating child sex crimes and I can tell you I only ran into one pedophile for sure and maybe a second. That's out of a dozens of cases. The act of having sex with a child, even one who is prepubescent, doesn't make you technically a pedophile. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying its ever ok to molest a child, just that there is a lot more to this than your uninformed notions.

The one thing I would argue with with Runnin's statement is the part about having "consensual sexual contact" with a minor. If they are not at the age of consent, it's not consensual.

See, told you. And I'm going to draw a distinction with Boot. A fifteen year old can be sexually active, and have engaged in consenting sexual activity with several partners for a couple years. However, from a purely criminal legal view of the evidence, the fifteen year old was not of a legal age to consent to sexual contact. Even though they did. Also, prior promiscuity may not be present as evidence at trial. I know plenty of men who were twenty and engaged in sexual intercourse with a fifteen year old, who truly believed she was eighteen. Some even asked and the girl told them she was eighteen. Now they are registering as sex offenders for life.

These men are not pedophiles.

Pedophilia is a very complex thing. Those folks get fixated on certain stages of development. Diagnosis is a complex deal also. See penile plethysmohraphy. That is one component of diagnosis.

Next thing, child sexual predators are the most cunning individuals I have met. They are willing to play "the long game" with building the necessary relationships with their victims. This grooming behavior is how they get close enough to the child and even the family to commit their crimes. If you want to protect your child, start searching and reading about sex offender child grooming. Some of it will be pretty generic. Some more specific. Oh, and have a strong relationship with your child. Sex offenders will exploit any emotional void to gain a space in a child's life that they can use to further their sexual desires. To them "the chase" is as exciting as the catch. Maybe even more so. During the chase they get to fantasize about what they are going to do. They feed off of that fantasy.

I guess the main thing I did with my kid was have a "No Secrets Policy." If anybody said, "this is our secret" or " don't tell." That was the exact time to tell. Just FYI...we still had a problem. I don't think I know of a woman or a girl that has gone through life with out unwanted sexual contact or sexual advances. .... That's something else you need to talk about.

There was a kid in my high school that was 18 doinking a 17 year old. Girl was a hoe and nailed dam near everything that moved. Her x boyfriend turned him in and he got arrested even though the girl and girls parents didn't press charges. Dude was a felon for life. Good news is I bought his 30-06 off him for $125 at the time.

My grandmother was 14 when she married my grandfather, who was 19. She had my mother when she had just turned 16. Nobody ever told me my grandfather was a rapist.

If the either party is beyond puberty, of normally functioning mentality and consents, I don't care about the partners age. But I do believe in attempting to teach children to not have consensual sex outside of marriage. Yes, I know how foreign that concept has become & how futile that attempt may be, but I still believe it is a sound principle. It solves a whole bunch of the problems we tinker with trying to fix by other means every day in this world.

It is very likely that "age of consent" was not codified as a legal construct then. That is exactly what "age of consent is." A legal construct. A person under a certain age can not legally consent to sexual contact...However, as in Texas. A party in the "not legally consenting conduct" cannot be prosecuted unless they are more than three years apart in age. It's freaking nuts.

A fifteen and eighteen year old can do it, but not a fifteen and nineteen year old. Oh, and they break out the calendar and count to the day.

One was eighteen and one was sixteen. They took some pictures. One of the girls called me when some of the pictures started getting passed around on cell phones. What a mess.
